Ice Rink Update

As we move closer to making our vision of a community ice rink in Montauk a reality, one thing has become clear: building a permanent seasonal rink is far more cost-effective than renting a temporary rink year after year.

A permanent facility also creates opportunities well beyond the winter season. During the warmer months, the rink can be transformed into pickleball courts, generating revenue through non-resident court fees to help offset year-round operating and maintenance costs. This sustainable model will help ensure the rink remains a lasting community asset.

There is already a successful precedent for this on the East End. Greenport recently secured a New York State grant to help fund a similar project, and we believe Montauk deserves the same opportunity. We are actively pursuing state funding to assist with construction costs.

While grant funding will help make this project possible, community support will be essential to bring it across the finish line. Your contribution will help fund:

● Rink operations — staffing, utilities, insurance, maintenance, and the day-to-day costs of operating the facility throughout the skating season.

● A Zamboni — providing safe, smooth, high-quality ice for skaters of all ages.

● Community skates — purchasing skates in a full range of sizes so everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the rink.

● Remaining construction costs — covering the portion of the project not funded through state grants.

Every donation brings us one step closer to creating a place where families can skate, children can learn, neighbors can gather, and lifelong memories can be made—right here in Montauk.

Beginning this year, Children of Montauk will host monthly weekend pop-up’s for local kids. Arts and crafts, hands-on workshops, and enriching activities hosted in partnership with Montauk’s local businesses. Each month brings something new, giving families a fun, free reason come together year round, not just in season.

Working with a few local vendors in setting up a fridge available 24/7 with fresh produce, including  staple pantry items to the side. This will be trust based.

Starting June 14th, 2026  we will be collecting drop off donations at the Montauk School. These drop offs will be sorted and cleaned. Then we will display them in a donated store front from fall to spring. We currently have two offers and are choosing our best fit. Stay tuned.

Clothing for all ages in good condition will be accepted. Clothing with rips, holes, stains or odors will be discarded.
